The Reliquary system replaces the old linear battle pass with multiple themed Reliquaries. Players earn Favor Diablo IV Gold Tokens through gameplay, which can unlock rewards like cosmetics and armor. Yet, all items can also be bought with Platinum, Diablo 4’s premium currency. The interface prominently features the paid option, encouraging spending over earning.

Reddit user Loika shared a revealing example where an armor set costs either 15 Favor Tokens or 750 Platinum (about $7.50), but the UI’s large, unconfirmed Platinum purchase button dominates the screen. This design risks accidental spending, especially for new or fast-clicking players.

Console users face additional issues: the button layout for claiming rewards changes mid-transaction, switching from token redemption to Platinum purchase. This confusing mapping was confirmed by GameSpot and increases chances of unintended purchases.

Pricing is also a sore point. Each premium Reliquary costs 500 Platinum, or 1,500 Platinum for all three. There is a “Battle Pass Bundle” offering all three for 1,000 Platinum, but buying even one Reliquary individually blocks access to this discount, forcing players to pay full price for the remaining items.

The Deluxe Bundle costs a hefty 2,800 Platinum (nearly $28) and includes the same armor as the base bundle, plus a pet and wing cosmetics. Many players feel the extras don’t justify the price hike.

Blizzard acknowledged player complaints during a Campfire Chat livestream, pledging to consider feedback but not making immediate changes. Adam Fletcher, Diablo 4’s director of social and content marketing, stated the system was designed to offer content for all players and promised better value in future collaborations. This came after backlash against the Berserk crossover, which buy duriel mats many felt was overpriced and lacked substance.
